Getting from Santorini to Sikinos

Sikinos is one of the least visited islands in the Cyclades and one of the most rewarding for exactly that reason. It sits between Folegandros and Ios, small and hilly, with a Chora perched on a ridge above the port that looks out over the Aegean in both directions. The island has an ancient monastery converted from a Roman mausoleum, one of the most unusual monuments in the Cyclades, and a coastline of quiet beaches that see almost no crowds. The port of Alopronia is one of the prettiest small harbours in the group. Sikinos is not a place you go to for anything in particular. You go to slow down entirely, and it is very good at that.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Santorini to Sikinos year-round, running 3 to 4 days per week with up to 3 crossings per day in summer. Fast Ferries and Maistros Santorini both operate the route and the crossing takes around 1 hour 34 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes depending on the vessel and the stops along the way. The Folegandros to Sikinos leg is a mere 30 minutes if you are routing through there. Book ahead in July and August as the summer sailings fill up.

What about flying?

Sikinos has no airport. The ferry from Santorini is the only option and at under 2 hours on the faster services it is one of the easier crossings in the southern Cyclades.

Your best option

Take the ferry. It is a direct, short and pleasant crossing and there is no reason to consider anything else. Check the schedule on Ferryhopper before you travel as the 3 to 4 days per week frequency means you need to plan around the departure days.
