Getting from Spetses to Agathonisi

If you are heading to Agathonisi from Spetses you are making your way from a car-free island in the Saronic Gulf to one of the most remote islands in the northern Dodecanese group, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It has almost no tourist infrastructure and an atmosphere of complete isolation.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Spetses to Agathonisi. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus, which runs up to 10 times daily and takes around 2 to 3.5 hours, and then either flying from Athens to Leros or Samos, followed by the local ferry to Agathonisi, which runs 3 to 5 times a week and takes around 1 to 2 hours, or boarding the overnight Piraeus to Leros ferry and then taking the local ferry to Agathonisi.

Getting there by air

Agathonisi has no airport. The nearest airports are Leros and Samos. Spetses has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus, flying from Athens to Leros or Samos and then taking the local ferry to Agathonisi gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus and fly from Athens to Leros or Samos, then take the local ferry across to Agathonisi. Check the ferry schedule before booking your flights as the service runs a limited number of times per week. Build flexibility into your plans as Agathonisi is not the easiest island to leave in a hurry. Note that Spetses is car-free so if you are traveling with a car it would be at the mainland port of Kosta, from where you can drive to Piraeus and board the overnight Piraeus to Leros ferry.
