Getting from Thessaloniki to Porto Heli
If you are heading to Porto Heli from Thessaloniki you are making your way from the second largest city in Greece to a sheltered harbour on the Argolic Gulf in the northeastern Peloponnese, on the opposite side of the country. It has a marina, good beaches and Spetses visible across the water.
Getting there by air
Porto Heli has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Thessaloniki has an international airport with daily connections to Athens. Flying from Thessaloniki to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Porto Heli, which runs 4 to 5 times daily and takes around 2 hours, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. Note that the Piraeus to Porto Heli ferry is passenger only and does not carry vehicles.
Take the train, bus or drive
Thessaloniki is connected to Athens by train, taking around 4 to 5 hours, and by KTEL bus, taking around 5 to 6 hours. From Athens the drive south through the Peloponnese to Porto Heli takes around 2.5 to 3 hours via Corinth and the eastern Peloponnese coast. The drive from Thessaloniki to Porto Heli takes around 7 to 8 hours via the E75 motorway and Athens.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Thessaloniki to Porto Heli. Getting there means traveling to Athens and then either taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus or driving south through the Peloponnese.
Your best option
Fly from Thessaloniki to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Porto Heli. It is the most practical approach for foot passengers at around 5 to 6 hours total. If you are traveling with a car, drive from Thessaloniki to Porto Heli via the E75 motorway and Athens, then south through the Peloponnese, as the Piraeus ferry does not carry vehicles.
