Getting from Tilos to Kastellorizo

If you are heading to Kastellorizo from Tilos you are making your way from a volcanic island in the Dodecanese to the easternmost point of Greece, a tiny island just off the Turkish coast in the same island group. It has a harbour of neoclassical mansions, the extraordinary Blue Cave and an atmosphere of complete tranquility.

Take the ferry

There is a ferry connection from Tilos to Kastellorizo via Rhodes on the Blue Star and Dodecanese Seaways routes. Getting there means taking the ferry from Tilos to Rhodes, which takes around 1 hour 10 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes and runs 4 to 7 days per week, and then boarding the Rhodes to Kastellorizo ferry or local boat, which runs several times a week. Alternatively the Piraeus to Kastellorizo ferry passes through the Dodecanese network and may stop at Tilos depending on the route, so check the full schedule before booking.

Getting there by air

Kastellorizo has its own small airport with connections from Athens via Rhodes. Tilos has no airport. The nearest airport is Rhodes. Taking the ferry from Tilos to Rhodes and then flying from Rhodes to Kastellorizo gives a total journey time of around 3 to 4 hours and keeps the journey within the Dodecanese entirely. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Tilos to Rhodes and then fly or take the local ferry across to Kastellorizo. It keeps the journey within the Dodecanese and avoids Athens entirely. Check the Tilos to Rhodes schedule before booking as departure days and times vary by season. Give yourself at least two nights on Kastellorizo. The island is small enough to walk around in an afternoon and extraordinary enough to make you want to stay much longer.
