Getting from Tinos to Katerini

If you are heading to Katerini from Tinos you are making your way from the most venerated pilgrimage island in the Cyclades to a city at the foot of Mount Olympus on the Pierian coast of northern Greece, with the mountain rising steeply behind it and the beaches of the Pieria coast below.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Tinos to Katerini. Katerini is a mainland city with no ferry connection. Getting there means taking the ferry from Tinos to Rafina, which runs up to 12 times daily in summer and takes around 2 hours, and then driving or taking the KTEL bus north to Katerini, which takes around 4.5 to 5 hours from Rafina via Athens and the E75 motorway. Alternatively fly from Mykonos to Thessaloniki and take the bus or drive south to Katerini, which takes around 1 hour.

Getting there by air

Katerini has no airport. The nearest airport is Thessaloniki, around 70 kilometres to the north. Tinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Mykonos. Taking the short ferry from Tinos to Mykonos, flying from Mykonos to Athens and then Athens to Thessaloniki, followed by a bus or drive to Katerini, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the short ferry from Tinos to Mykonos and fly from Mykonos to Athens, then fly from Athens to Thessaloniki and take the KTEL bus or drive south to Katerini. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Tinos to Rafina or Piraeus and drive north via Athens and the E75 motorway to Katerini.
