Getting from Zakynthos to Kasos

If you are heading to Kasos from Zakynthos you are making your way from one of the most beautiful of the Ionian islands to the southernmost island in the Dodecanese group, on the opposite side of Greece. It has a maritime history that produced some of Greece's most celebrated sea captains and an authenticity that comes from being almost entirely off the tourist circuit.

Getting there by air

Kasos has its own small airport with connections from Athens via Rhodes. Zakynthos has an international airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Zakynthos to Athens and then Athens to Rhodes and Rhodes to Kasos gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. Check the schedule carefully as the Kasos service runs a limited number of times per week. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Zakynthos to Kasos. No Ionian island is connected by sea to any Aegean island. Getting there by road means taking the ferry from Zakynthos to Kyllini and driving to Piraeus for the Piraeus to Kasos ferry, which runs 3 to 5 times a week and takes around 13 to 17 hours. The total journey by road and sea takes the better part of two days. Flying via Rhodes is considerably more practical for most travelers.

Your best option

Fly from Zakynthos to Athens and then fly to Rhodes and connect to Kasos by air or local ferry. It is the fastest and most practical approach. Check the schedule carefully as the Kasos service runs a limited number of times per week. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Zakynthos to Kyllini and drive to Piraeus for the overnight Piraeus to Kasos ferry, which takes your vehicle and arrives in around 13 to 17 hours depending on the route.
