About Antigoni

Early Life

Antigoni, born Antigoni Buxton on March 9, 1996, in London, is the daughter of Greek-Cypriot chef and television presenter Tonia Buxton and English architect Paul Buxton. Raised in the East Finchley area of North London, she regularly spent time in Cyprus throughout her childhood and has spoken about growing up feeling "very Cypriot," listening to both British pop and Greek-language music. She attended Woodhouse College and the BRIT School before signing with Island Records at twenty.

Musical Style & Sound

Antigoni performs pop, with early material blending pop and R&B alongside Mediterranean influences and Greek instrumentation. After leaving Island Records, she founded her own label, Sirena Records, in 2018, giving her full creative control over a sound that continued to draw on her dual British and Greek-Cypriot identity.

Career Rise

Antigoni was signed to Island Records at twenty by former label president Darcus Beese, recording early tracks including "2 Steps" and "Boosting." After the executive who signed her left the company, she chose to become an independent artist, founding Sirena Records and reinvesting part of her earnings from her major-label years into her own releases. In 2022, she gained wider recognition appearing on the eighth series of the UK reality show Love Island. In 2026, she was internally selected to represent Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Jalla," qualifying from her semi-final and finishing 19th in the final.

Diaspora Impact

Antigoni's British-Cypriot upbringing and her choice to represent Cyprus at Eurovision make her a direct embodiment of the diaspora experience for Greek-Cypriot communities in the UK. Her music's blend of Mediterranean and Greek instrumental influences with mainstream British pop gives her particular reach among diaspora audiences straddling both cultural identities.
