About
Nikos Xylouris was more than a singer; he was a symbol of resistance and the pure soul of Crete. Known for his piercing, divine voice and mastery of the Cretan Lyra, he became the face of the anti-junta movement in the 1970s. His interpretations of Stavros Xarchakos and Yannis Markopoulos are legendary. Even decades after his passing, his 2025 digital remastered anthology reached the top of the Greek charts. As of 2026, he remains the undisputed moral and musical authority of the Cretan tradition, whose songs like "Itane Mia Fora" are considered national treasures.
Diaspora Impact
A sacred figure for the Cretan diaspora worldwide; his music is the ultimate link to the rugged spirit of the island.
