Early Life

Tania Tsanaklidou, born Soultana Tsanaklidou on April 9, 1952, in Drama, Greece, was raised in Thessaloniki. By eight, she had already appeared in a children's theatrical production. She studied drama, ancient history, and dance, and at twenty-one moved to Athens, where she began performing at the venue Mormolis and singing at night at "Lidra" alongside composer Giannis Markopoulos, also contributing to his album "Thiteia."

In 1980, she won the French Festival Rose d'Or. In 1981, she portrayed Edith Piaf at the Athenian Kipotheatro, and mid-decade began working with composer Giannis Spanos on the albums "File" (1982) and "Tis Vrochis kai tis Nychtas" (1984). In 1988, she partnered with Stamatis Kraounakis and lyricist Lina Nikolakopoulou on "Mama Gernao." She toured extensively outside Greece throughout the 1980s, and later collaborated with composer George Andreou on a 1995 comeback album. In 1996, she created the musical theater piece "To Magiko Kouti" with pianist Takis Farazi, and also appeared in a Patras municipal theater production about the life of Mikis Theodorakis. She retired from performing in 2011.
