Vassilis Tsitsanis is the most significant figure in the history of Rembetiko and Laïkó. As a composer and virtuoso of the bouzouki, he modernized the genre and brought it into the mainstream. His 2025 digitally preserved archives were inducted into the UNESCO cultural heritage list. By 2026, his songs like "Synefiasmeni Kyriaki" are considered the second "national anthems" of Greece, representing the soul of the nation.
