About the Beach

Agia Markella Beach is an expansive and impressive coastal stretch on the northwestern coast of Chios extending directly in front of the historic Monastery of Saint Markella the patron saint of the island with a landscape of dark sand and scattered pebbles that faces the isle of Psara and is known for its exceptionally cold and deep waters while a narrow coastal path between the sea and steep high cliffs leads explorers to the holy site of the saints martyrdom where a unique warm water spring flows into the sea from the earth.
