About the Beach

Loutro is a tiny and very picturesque cove located near the old boatyards of Ano Koufonisi, offering a glimpse into the island’s traditional maritime soul. It features a small pebble beach with very clear, calm water that is tucked away behind the colorful fishing boats and traditional "sirmata" garages. The water is a deep, transparent blue and is very well-protected from the winds, making it a peaceful spot for a quiet dip. It is an unorganized and very local area where you can watch the fishermen at work while you cool off in the sea. The atmosphere is authentic and understated, providing a very different experience from the larger sandy beaches. It is a great place for those who appreciate the simple beauty of a working harbor and the quiet charm of the island's history. The silence here is only broken by the sound of the water against the wooden boats.
