About the Beach
Kalami Beach is a peaceful and very pretty horseshoe-shaped bay on the northeast coast of Corfu that is famous for its bright white pebbles and water that looks like green glass because it is so clear and calm. It is a very special place because a famous writer named Lawrence Durrell used to live in a big white house right on the edge of the water, and you can still see the house today while you are swimming in the bay. The beach is surrounded by beautiful cypress trees and olive groves that grow right down to the shore, giving it a very quiet and natural feeling that is different from the big noisy resort towns. It is a great place to rent a small motorboat to explore the other tiny coves nearby or just sit in the sun and watch the fancy yachts sail past the green hills of the island in the distance.
