About the Beach
Kalamitsa Beach is one of the most expansive and popular coastal stretches on the southwestern coast of Skyros, located about nine kilometers from the main town and serving as a center for maritime sports. It features a long shore of small pebbles and coarse sand with exceptionally clear, deep blue water that remains fresh and invigorating throughout the summer months. The beach is well-organized in several sections with sunbeds, umbrellas, and traditional tavernas that serve local delicacies right on the water's edge, while other parts remain entirely free for those seeking more space. Because it faces the open sea, the beach often benefits from a steady breeze, making it a favorite spot for windsurfing and sailing enthusiasts who enjoy the wide and unobstructed horizon. The surrounding landscape is rugged and dry, providing a dramatic natural contrast to the well-serviced shoreline and the small fishing boats moored in the nearby harbor. The water is clean and the entry is easy for most swimmers, providing a safe and practical choice for a long day by the sea. Access is very easy via a paved road that offers panoramic views of the island coastline. The atmosphere is friendly and reflects the modern spirit of the Sporades culture. It is a landmark of the island.
