About the Beach

Kontogoni Beach is a very convenient and beautiful sandy beach located right at the edge of the main village of Elafonisos, which makes it the perfect place for a quick swim if you are staying in town or waiting for the ferry to arrive from the mainland. The water is a bright turquoise color and stays very shallow for a long way out, so you can walk quite far into the sea while the water only reaches your knees, making it very safe for people who want to play in the waves. It is lined with many traditional fish tavernas and cafes where you can sit and watch the sun go down over the Peloponnese coast while you eat fresh seafood right next to the sand and enjoy the breeze. Because it is so close to the harbor, it is a very lively and social spot where people gather in the evenings to walk along the shore, and it offers a great view of the small boats coming and going across the narrow straight of water that separates the island from the rest of Greece.
