About the Beach

Makris Gialos is a long and wide sandy beach located in the Afiartis area, world-renowned as a premier destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing. The water is incredibly shallow for a very long distance and is a brilliant, glowing turquoise color that looks like a swimming pool. Because of the consistent and strong winds, the area is very lively and full of colorful sails gliding across the water. While it is a hub for athletes, the shallow and calm water near the shore also makes it a unique place for a casual wade or a relaxing day on the sand. There are several surf schools and beach bars that provide a very energetic and international vibe. The landscape is flat and open, providing wide views of the southern coastline and the airport area. It is a fantastic place to watch world-class water sports while enjoying the vibrant colors of the Aegean.
