About the Beach

Plaka Beach is a unique and strikingly beautiful coastal spot on the northwestern coast of Tilos, famous for its lush green surroundings and its resident population of wild peacocks that roam the shore. It features a long shore of small pebbles and sand with exceptionally clear turquoise water, backed by a dense grove of eucalyptus and cedar trees that provide a generous amount of natural shade. The beach is entirely unorganized and maintains a raw, majestic character, though there are stone-built benches and a basic shower facility provided for the comfort of the few visitors who make the journey. It is a destination for nature lovers and birdwatchers who want to experience the island's unique eco-diversity in a setting of total silence and natural power. The water is deep and fresh, providing an invigorating environment for a long swim in a rugged and secluded setting away from the main port of Livadia. Access is via a paved road that leads through the island interior, followed by a short walk through the trees to reach the sand. The entry into the water is via the smooth stones and the clarity is consistently high even on breezy days. The atmosphere is serene and reflects the untamed nature of the Dodecanese. It is a part of the coast that offers a sense of total freedom.
