About the Beach

Steno Beach is a unique coastal area located at the narrowest point of Astypalea which is only about one hundred meters wide and connects the two main parts of the island known as Mesa and Exo Nisi. The landscape is characterized by its calm and shallow waters which are almost always protected from the wind due to the surrounding landmasses that create a natural lagoon like environment. The area features a few tamarisk trees for shade and a small canteen providing a simple and peaceful setting for families and those who enjoy quiet waters. The surrounding geography is flat and accessible offering a scenic view of the islands unique butterfly shape and the traditional windmills that dot the distant ridges.
