About the Beach
Vagia Beach is a spectacular and remarkably tranquil coastal sanctuary on the northern coast of Patmos, located about seven kilometers from the main port of Skala and famously known for having the coldest and most invigorating waters on the entire island. It features a shore of small multicolored pebbles and coarse sand with exceptionally clear, calm turquoise water that remains pristine due to its distance from the busier southern resorts. The beach is entirely unorganized and maintains a raw, natural character, with several large tamarisk trees providing a generous amount of natural shade along the back of the shore for those who prefer a more relaxed and quiet environment. It is a destination for nature lovers and families who want to experience the island in its most traditional and silent form, often preferred by those who enjoy a long dip in the sea away from the modern beach clubs and commercial infrastructure. The water is deep and fresh, providing a high-quality environment for a long soak in a rugged setting where the only sound is the movement of the Aegean against the stones. Access is via a paved road followed by a short and easy walk of less than fifteen minutes from the nearby settlement of Kambos, which helps keep the atmosphere quiet and respectful even during the peak summer months.
