History

Greek immigrants had been making their way to Wyoming since the early 1900s, drawn by the state's mining, ranching, and railroad industries, and a small but determined community took root in Casper. Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church was formally incorporated in 1962, at which point the young parish already had a governing body, was celebrating regular services, and was actively seeking its first full-time priest.

The generosity of one man made the permanent church possible. Frank Dallason donated the land for the building, the altar, and a significant portion of the funds required for construction, an act of sacrifice that gave the Casper Greek Orthodox community a home of its own. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held on May 23, 1963, and the Reverend Artemis Mandakas celebrated the first Divine Liturgy in the new church in the fall of 1964. The parish celebrates the feast day of the Holy Trinity, Pentecost, as its Name Day, a fitting dedication for a community that traces its institutional beginning to the year in which the Orthodox Church commemorates the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles.

In the recorded history of the parish there is one ordination, that of Deacon Michael Azar, son of parishioners Nick and Maggie Azar and a graduate of Kelly Walsh High School in Casper, who was ordained to the Holy Diaconate in 2007 at Holy Trinity, a moment of particular joy for a community that has deep roots in Wyoming family life across several generations.

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 1350 East C Street in Casper serves the Orthodox Christian faithful of central Wyoming as a parish of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Denver within the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, welcoming all who wish to draw near to God through the ancient Orthodox Christian faith on the high plains of the American West.
