How Many Days Should I Spend on Agistri?
Agistri covers well over a day trip from Piraeus, but two to three days let the island's pine forests and beaches actually settle into a proper rhythm.
Agistri fills a first day easily around Skala, the busier of the island's two ports, where the beach right in town gives shallow water well suited to families. A short walk or bike ride through pine forest leads to Chalikiada, a quieter cove on the western side that keeps its own laid-back pace.
A second day belongs to Aponisos, a small islet connected to the mainland by a wooden platform and framed by pine on nearly every side, along with Dragonera, split into two coves named for rock formations that resemble a dragon's back. Megalochori, the island's second port, gives a slower base for anyone wanting fewer crowds than Skala.
A third day suits horseback riding out of Megalochori, a good way to see more of the island's thirteen square kilometers than walking allows, or a boat trip that pairs Agistri with the nearby islet of Moni, home to deer and peacocks, and a stop on Aegina, a short ten to fifteen minute crossing away.
Agistri connects to Piraeus by ferry in as little as 55 minutes, with most sailings routing through Aegina first, making it easy to combine a few nights on each island for anyone building a longer Saronic trip.
A single day covers Skala and Chalikiada comfortably, two days add Aponisos, Dragonera, and Megalochori properly, and three brings horseback riding or a boat trip to Aegina and Moni into a fuller stay. Even a short day trip gives a real sense of the island's pine-covered coves, but Agistri's beaches and slower pace give genuine reason to stay overnight rather than rushing back to the mainland.
