Getting from Aegina to Paxos

If you are heading to Paxos from Aegina you are making your way to a small island in the Ionian Sea, on the opposite side of Greece. It has ancient olive groves, turquoise coves and a Venetian harbour at Gaios that is one of the most charming in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Paxos. No Ionian island is connected by sea to any Saronic island. Paxos is connected to the mainland via Igoumenitsa, with daily ferries to Gaios taking around 1 hour 30 minutes, and seasonally from Corfu, with the crossing taking around 1 hour 30 minutes. Getting to either port from Aegina means taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and then travelling by road northwest to Igoumenitsa, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Athens.

Getting there by air

Paxos has no airport. The nearest airport is Corfu. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Corfu takes around 50 minutes in the air, followed by the seasonal ferry from Corfu to Paxos taking around 1 hour 30 minutes. Total travel time via Corfu is around 5 to 6 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, fly to Corfu and take the seasonal ferry across to Paxos. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and drive northwest to Igoumenitsa for the daily ferry to Paxos from there.
