Getting from Agios Efstratios to Alonissos

If you are heading to Alonissos from Agios Efstratios you are making your way from a small island in the northern Aegean to the most remote of the Sporades group, in the northwestern Aegean. It has a densely forested coastline, a beautifully preserved old village above the port and a marine park that protects the largest colony of Mediterranean monk seals in Europe.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agios Efstratios to Alonissos. Getting there means taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, which runs 4 times a week in summer and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, flying to Athens and then traveling to Volos or Mantoudi in northern Evia for the ferry to Alonissos. From Volos the crossing takes around 3 to 5 hours with daily departures. From Mantoudi the crossing takes around 2 hours and runs in summer. Note that as of 2026 there are no departures from Agios Konstantinos to Alonissos.

Getting there by air

Alonissos has no airport. The nearest airport is Skiathos, with daily connections from Athens. Taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Skiathos, followed by the ferry from Skiathos to Alonissos taking around 1 to 2 hours, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, fly to Athens and then fly to Skiathos and take the ferry across to Alonissos. It is the most time efficient approach. If you are traveling with a car, fly to Athens, drive to Volos and take the ferry to Alonissos from there.
