Getting from Agios Efstratios to Chania

If you are heading to Chania from Agios Efstratios you are making your way from a small island in the northern Aegean to the most intimate of Crete's three main cities, with a Venetian old town of narrow lanes, a fortress above the sea and a long sandy beach running east from the town centre.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agios Efstratios to Chania. Getting there by sea means taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, flying to Athens and then boarding the overnight Piraeus to Chania ferry, which takes around 8 to 9 hours and arrives in the morning. It is comfortable with cabins available but the total journey takes the better part of two days.

Getting there by air

Chania has an international airport with connections from Athens. Taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Chania takes around 50 minutes in the air. Total travel time is around 5 to 6 hours and is the most practical approach for most travelers. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos and fly to Chania via Athens. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, fly to Athens and take the overnight Piraeus to Chania ferry, which departs in the evening, takes around 8 to 9 hours and arrives in the morning with your vehicle ready to go.
