Getting from Alexandroupoli to Lavrio

If you are heading to Lavrio from Alexandroupoli you are making your way from the far northeastern corner of Greece to the third ferry port serving Athens, on the southeastern tip of Attica around 30 minutes from Athens Airport. It is the departure point for ferries to Kea, Kythnos and several other Cycladic islands.

Take the ferry

There is actually a direct ferry from Alexandroupoli to Lavrio, operated via the northern Aegean mainline route and stopping at Agios Efstratios and Lemnos along the way. The service runs a limited number of times per week and takes around 14 to 15 hours in total. It is a long overnight journey but connects Alexandroupoli directly to the Athens area without flying.

Getting there by air

Lavrio has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 30 kilometres to the northwest. Flying from Alexandroupoli to Athens and then taking a taxi directly to Lavrio takes around 30 minutes from the airport. Total journey time is around 3 to 4 hours and is considerably faster than the direct ferry.

Your best option

Fly from Alexandroupoli to Athens and take a taxi directly to Lavrio from the airport. At around 30 minutes it is one of the most convenient airport to port connections in Greece. If you are traveling with a car or prefer the sea journey, the direct overnight ferry from Alexandroupoli to Lavrio takes your vehicle and arrives in the morning.
