Getting from Astakos to Mykonos

If you are heading to Mykonos from Astakos you are making your way from a port town on the western coast of central Greece to the most cosmopolitan island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the country. It has a maze of whitewashed lanes above the port, long beaches on the south coast and some of the best beach clubs in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Astakos to Mykonos. Astakos ferry connections are limited to Kefalonia and Ithaca. Getting to Mykonos means driving from Astakos to Athens, which takes around 3.5 hours, and then taking the fast catamaran from Rafina to Mykonos, which takes around 2 to 2.5 hours and is the most convenient connection as Rafina is only 20 minutes from Athens Airport.

Getting there by air

Mykonos has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Astakos has no airport either. Driving from Astakos to Athens and flying to Mykonos takes around 40 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Drive from Astakos to Athens and fly to Mykonos. It is the fastest and most practical approach. Book ahead in July and August as Mykonos flight spaces fill up fast. If you are traveling with a car, drive from Astakos to Athens and continue to Piraeus for the conventional Piraeus to Mykonos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Mykonos New Port.
