Getting from Astakos to Sifnos

If you are heading to Sifnos from Astakos you are making your way from a port town on the western coast of central Greece to one of the most respected islands in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the country. It is known above all for its food, a tradition of pottery and cooking that has made it one of the most regarded gastronomic destinations in the Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Astakos to Sifnos. Astakos ferry connections are limited to Kefalonia and Ithaca. Getting to Sifnos means driving from Astakos to Athens, which takes around 3.5 hours, and then taking the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry, which runs up to 4 times daily in summer and takes around 2.5 hours on the fast boat.

Getting there by air

Sifnos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Astakos has no airport either. Driving from Astakos to Athens and taking the ferry from Piraeus to Sifnos gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Drive from Astakos to Athens and take the ferry from Piraeus to Sifnos. At around 2.5 hours on the fast boat the Piraeus to Sifnos crossing is one of the more manageable Cyclades connections. If you are traveling with a car, drive from Astakos to Athens and continue to Piraeus for the conventional Piraeus to Sifnos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Kamares port.
