Getting from Chios to Fournoi
If you are heading to Fournoi from Chios you are making your way from one of the most overlooked islands in the northeastern Aegean to a cluster of small fishing islands between Ikaria and Samos in the eastern Aegean, relatively close in regional terms. It has excellent seafood, quiet beaches and almost no tourist infrastructure.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Chios to Fournoi. The most practical sea approach is to take the ferry from Chios to Samos and then the local ferry to Fournoi, which takes under 1 hour from Samos and runs daily in summer. This keeps the journey entirely within the northeastern Aegean and avoids Athens entirely.
Getting there by air
Fournoi has no airport. The nearest airports are Samos and Ikaria, both with connections from Athens. Chios has its own airport with daily connections from Athens. Flying from Chios to Athens and then Athens to Samos, followed by the local ferry to Fournoi, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Chios to Samos and then the local ferry across to Fournoi. It is the most natural and direct connection and avoids Athens entirely. Give yourself at least two nights on Fournoi and come prepared as facilities on the island are limited. If you prefer to fly, take the flight from Chios to Athens and then fly to Samos and take the local ferry across to Fournoi.
