Getting from Crete to Andros

If you are heading to Andros from Crete you are going to the northernmost and second largest of the Cyclades, an island of neoclassical mansions, an art museum of genuinely international quality, excellent hiking trails and a coastline of good beaches that has a loyal following among Athenians who have been coming for generations.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Crete to Andros. The island is served primarily from Rafina on the northeastern Attica coast, with up to 11 daily departures and the trip taking around 1 to 2 hours. Getting to Rafina from Crete means flying to Athens and then taking a taxi or bus to Rafina from the airport, which takes around 30 minutes.

Getting there by air

Andros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Crete to Athens takes around 50 minutes and then a taxi or bus to Rafina takes around 30 minutes, followed by the ferry to Andros taking around 1 to 2 hours. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours.

Your best option

Fly to Athens and take the ferry from Rafina to Andros. If you are arriving at Athens Airport, Rafina is a short taxi or bus ride from the terminal and avoids crossing the city entirely. Up to 11 daily departures means you rarely need to plan far in advance.
