Getting from Crete to Kimolos

If you are heading to Kimolos from Crete you are going to one of the quietest and most authentic islands in the Cyclades, a small white island just off the northwestern tip of Milos with a Venetian castle Chora and beaches that see a fraction of the crowds found anywhere nearby.

Take the ferry

There is a direct seasonal ferry from Crete to Kimolos running in summer, departing from Heraklion and stopping at Santorini and Milos along the way, with the full journey taking around 4 to 5 hours. The route is not year-round so check the schedule before planning around it. Kimolos is also connected to Milos by a very short trip of around 25 minutes, making Milos a useful connection point if the direct service is not running.

Getting there by air

Kimolos has no airport. The nearest airport is Milos, which has daily connections from Athens. Flying from Crete to Athens takes around 50 minutes and then Athens to Milos takes around 45 minutes, followed by the short ferry to Kimolos taking around 25 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours.

Your best option

Fly to Milos via Athens and take the short ferry across to Kimolos. It is the fastest approach and the Milos to Kimolos trip is one of the most effortless short hops in the Cyclades. If the direct summer ferry from Heraklion works for your dates it is worth taking for the experience.
