Getting from Mykonos to Antipaxos

You're heading to Antipaxos, a tiny island just two kilometres south of Paxos with a permanent population of around 20 people and two beaches that rank among the finest in the Ionian. Vrika and Voutoumi are the kind of beaches that stop people in their tracks, white sand and water in shades of blue and green that look tropical in the best possible way. Almost nobody lives on Antipaxos permanently and there is no real infrastructure beyond a couple of seasonal tavernas above the beaches. Day trippers come over from Paxos through the summer and the beaches fill up, but by late afternoon the boats head back and the island returns to its natural state of near silence.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry between Mykonos and Antipaxos. The island is reached exclusively by small boats from Paxos, a crossing that takes around 20 minutes and runs regularly through the summer season. Getting to Antipaxos from Mykonos means reaching Paxos first, which itself requires flying to Corfu or Preveza via Athens and then taking the ferry down to Paxos. It is a multi leg journey but manageable if you plan it as part of a wider Ionian itinerary.

What about flying?

Antipaxos does not have an airport so flying directly to the island is not an option. The nearest airports are Corfu to the north and Preveza to the south, both of which have connections to Paxos. The journey from Mykonos goes Mykonos to Athens, Athens to Corfu or Preveza, ferry to Paxos and then the short boat crossing to Antipaxos. It is worth knowing that in Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. Almost all island to island travel goes through Athens.

Your best option

Fly to Corfu via Athens, take the ferry down to Paxos and make the short crossing to Antipaxos from there. If you are going to Antipaxos, do it as part of a stay on Paxos rather than as a standalone trip. A few days on Paxos with a day or two on Antipaxos is the right combination. Get to Voutoumi beach early before the day trippers arrive and stay until the afternoon when the boats head back and the beach empties out.
