Getting from Tilos to Agathonisi
If you are heading to Agathonisi from Tilos you are making your way from a volcanic island in the southern Dodecanese to one of the most remote islands in the northern part of the same group. It has almost no tourist infrastructure and an atmosphere of complete isolation.
Take the ferry
There is a ferry connection from Tilos to Agathonisi via the Blue Star and Dodekanisos Seaways routes running through the Dodecanese network. Getting there means taking the ferry from Tilos north through Kos, Kalymnos, Leros and Lipsi to Agathonisi, which runs 3 to 5 times a week and takes around 5 to 7 hours in total. It keeps the journey entirely within the Dodecanese without going through Athens or Piraeus. Check the schedule carefully before booking as departure days vary by season.
Getting there by air
Agathonisi has no airport. The nearest airports are Leros and Samos. Tilos has no airport. The nearest airport is Rhodes. Taking the ferry from Tilos to Rhodes, flying from Rhodes to Athens and then Athens to Leros, followed by the local ferry to Agathonisi, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Tilos north through the Dodecanese network to Agathonisi. It keeps the journey entirely within the Dodecanese and avoids Athens entirely. Check the schedule carefully before booking as the service runs a limited number of times per week. Build flexibility into your plans as Agathonisi is not the easiest island to leave in a hurry. Come entirely self-sufficient as the island has almost no facilities.
