Getting from Volos to Evia
If you are heading to Evia from Volos you are making your way from a city on the Pagasetic Gulf at the foot of the Pelion peninsula to the second largest island in Greece, connected to the mainland by road bridges and relatively close in geographic terms given both sit on the eastern side of central Greece.
Take the ferry
Evia has no direct ferry connection from Volos. Getting there means driving from Volos south via the E75 motorway to Halkida, where the bridge connects directly to Evia, which takes around 2 to 2.5 hours. Alternatively drive to Arkitsa and take the short ferry to Loutra Edipsou on the northern coast of Evia, which takes around 30 minutes and runs frequently. From Volos the drive to Arkitsa takes around 1.5 to 2 hours via Lamia.
Getting there by air
Evia has no commercial airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Volos has a small airport at Nea Anchialos with limited connections from Athens. Driving from Volos south to Halkida for the bridge crossing to Evia gives a total journey time of around 2 to 2.5 hours and avoids Athens entirely. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Drive from Volos south via the E75 motorway to Halkida and cross the bridge directly into Evia. At around 2 to 2.5 hours it avoids Athens entirely and is the most direct and natural approach. If you are heading to the northern part of Evia, drive to Arkitsa and take the short ferry to Loutra Edipsou, which takes around 30 minutes and saves considerable driving time around the island.
