About Lex

Early Life

Lex, born Alexis Lanaras on September 25, 1984, in Faliro, Thessaloniki, comes from Galatista, Chalkidiki. He started out as a graffiti artist with the crew 2G (Golden Globes or Good Guys), alongside Mikros Kleftis, Jamal, Zenon, and Mondi.

Musical Style & Sound

Lex performs Greek hip-hop and rap, known for socially conscious lyrics addressing the financial crisis, corruption, drugs, police brutality, and petty crime. His style has been described as anti-poetic, dark, and often raw, earning him recognition as a voice for a disillusioned generation. He keeps a notably low public profile, avoiding interviews and traditional media promotion, and lets his music speak for itself.

Career Rise

In 1999, Lex's graffiti crew branched into music, forming the hip-hop group Voreia Asteria (Northern Stars), releasing their debut album "Xalara" in 2002 or 2003. The group released four albums before splitting, after which Lex also formed Anapoda Kapela with fellow member Mikros Kleftis, releasing two further albums. He launched his solo career in 2010, releasing his debut solo album, "Tapeinoi kai Peinasmenoi" ("Humble and Hungry"), in 2014, which reached number 13 on the charts and became regarded as a defining release in contemporary Greek rap. He continued with "2XXX" (2018, reaching number 9) and performed to roughly 10,000 people at the Petra Theater in Athens that summer. His 2022 album, "Metro," reached number 9, the same year his concert at Thessaloniki's Kaftanzoglio Stadium drew approximately 30,000 spectators, a record for a rap concert in Greece at the time. His fourth album, "G.T.K.," released in 2024, went gold and surpassed 25.5 million Spotify streams, with tracks including "Nychterides," "Alitiki Agapi," and "Cheiroteri Genia" each topping 2.8 million plays. In 2025, a surprise concert at the same Thessaloniki stadium drew an estimated 35,000 fans.

Diaspora Impact

Lex's rise without traditional media promotion or interviews, built entirely through word-of-mouth and stadium-filling live performances, has made his music travel organically among diaspora audiences following the Greek rap scene closely rather than through mainstream press coverage.
