About the Beach
Agios Ioannis is a magnificent and very secluded bay on the southwestern coast of Milos, consisting of three distinct sandy beaches separated by high volcanic cliffs. The area is named after the historic monastery of Saint John, located on the hill above, which is a significant cultural landmark. The water is a deep, transparent blue and is exceptionally calm, as the bay is well-protected from the intense winds. Access is via a winding dirt road and a short walk down a steep path, which keeps the largest crowds away. It is an unorganized beach with a very raw and authentic Aegean feel, offering a sense of discovery and total freedom. The sunsets from Agios Ioannis are legendary, as the sun dips directly into the open sea, coloring the landscape in vivid shades. It is a fantastic destination for those who value privacy and a high-quality swimming environment in a setting of great natural and spiritual significance.
