About the Beach

Gyra is a very long and impressive sandy beach located on the narrow strip of land that separates the lagoon of Lefkada from the open Ionian Sea. It is an extension of the Agios Ioannis coastline and is famous for its wild, natural beauty and the historic windmills that stand nearby. The water is deep and a brilliant shade of turquoise, often featuring a refreshing surf due to the northern winds. While it is close to the main town, it feels expansive and uncrowded, offering plenty of space for those who want to avoid the organized beach clubs. It is a fantastic spot for long walks and for watching the sunset over the horizon. The atmosphere is open and airy, reflecting the unique geography of the northern tip of the island.
