About the Beach
Petrokopio is a fascinating place where the island’s history and natural beauty collide. The beach is a mix of white pebbles and sand, but the real standout feature is the presence of ancient marble quarries right on the shoreline. You can still see huge blocks of worked stone and columns scattered around the rocks and even under the water near the edge. The sea is a deep, clear blue and the whole area is framed by steep, rocky cliffs that give it a very grand and dramatic feel. It’s accessible by boat or a hiking path, which keeps the crowds away and preserves the quiet atmosphere. It’s a great spot for snorkeling, as the underwater marble blocks attract plenty of marine life. There are no facilities here, so it’s all about the rocks, the history, and the very clear Aegean water.
