History

Saint Andrew Greek Orthodox Church of Randolph, New Jersey was established in 1965 to bring the Gospel of Christ and the ancient Orthodox Christian faith to the communities of Morris County and the neighboring suburbs of northern New Jersey. The founding of the parish reflected the broader postwar dispersal of Greek Orthodox families from the cities of New Jersey into the Morris County suburbs, where no Greek Orthodox community yet existed to serve their spiritual needs.

In the six decades since its founding, Saint Andrew has grown into a welcoming center of Orthodox Christian and Hellenic community life at its home on Sussex Turnpike. The parish is dedicated to Saint Andrew the First-Called, the brother of the Apostle Peter and the first of Christ's disciples, who after the Ascension preached throughout Greece and Asia Minor and was martyred in Patras of Achaia on a cross in the shape of the letter X, the first letter of Christ's name in Greek. The parish takes its patron's missionary spirit seriously, extending a welcome to Orthodox Christians of Hellenic heritage alongside those of Romanian, Arabic, Serbian, and American backgrounds, reflecting the universal character of the ancient faith.

Saint Andrew's annual Big Greek Festival has become a beloved Morris County tradition, drawing visitors from across northern New Jersey to the Sussex Turnpike campus for Greek food, music, and the warmth of Hellenic hospitality that the parish has shared with the broader community for more than half a century.

Saint Andrew Greek Orthodox Church at 1447 Sussex Turnpike in Randolph serves the Orthodox Christian faithful of Morris County as a parish of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey within the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
