History

Saint Spyridon Chapel of Troy, Michigan serves the Orthodox Christian faithful of Oakland County from its home at 2560 Crooks Road, functioning as the chapel of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Detroit's administrative offices in the Detroit metropolitan area. The chapel bears the name of Saint Spyridon of Trimythous, the beloved fourth-century Bishop of Cyprus who was a shepherd before his elevation to the episcopate, whose simple faith and profound holiness were said to have confounded the Arian philosophers at the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, and whose incorrupt relics have rested on the island of Corfu since the fifteenth century, drawing pilgrims from across the Orthodox world to this day. His feast day is celebrated on December 12.
