History

Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Jackson Heights, Queens has served the Greek Orthodox faithful of one of New York City's most diverse neighborhoods since the mid-twentieth century. The parish's first recorded priest began serving in 1954, and the community grew steadily through the following decades alongside the Greek population of Jackson Heights and the broader Queens borough.

 

A significant milestone came in 1994, when the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America officially recognized Saints Constantine and Helen as a member parish, and the formal Thyranoixia, or Opening of the Doors ceremony, was celebrated. In 1997 the community marked its thirtieth anniversary, reflecting on three decades of parish life in a neighborhood that has since become recognized as the most ethnically diverse urban community in the United States, home to residents from dozens of countries and language groups.
