History

Transfiguration Orthodox Church of Lititz, Pennsylvania was born from a vision that took shape within the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Lancaster. In June 2014, Annunciation's parish strategic plan included the creation of a mission parish in northern Lancaster County, recognizing that the communities of the Lititz area had no Orthodox Christian presence of their own. Over the following year and a half, a small group of faithful met twice monthly at the Lititz Mennonite Church for prayer, study, and fellowship while the mission took shape, and the Annunciation Parish Council voted unanimously to contribute financially to the effort and seed the new community.

In May 2016, after considering several sites, the mission advisory board and Annunciation's parish council agreed to lease a space in Warwick Center at 28 Copperfield Circle in Lititz. Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh gave his blessing that June to name the mission Transfiguration Orthodox Church. Renovations were completed in July 2016 to create a small Narthex, Sanctuary, Altar, and fellowship room, and Metropolitan Savas appointed Father Alexander Goussetis as the mission's first pastor effective September 1. The mission opened with a Water Blessing service on August 3, and the feast day celebrations of the Transfiguration of Our Savior were held on August 6, the day after the patron feast, marking the beginning of the community's liturgical life in Lititz. The first full Holy Week and Pascha celebration followed, and Metropolitan Savas made his first pastoral visit on Holy Monday, deepening the bond between the new mission and the broader Metropolis of Pittsburgh.
