St. Victor Feast Day and Greek Name Day

St. Victor is honored in the Orthodox Christian Church as a Christian martyr remembered for his devotion to the faith during the early persecutions of Christians in the Roman Empire. His feast day is celebrated on April 5, and on this day people named Victor, Viktor, and Victoria celebrate their Greek name day.

Who Was St. Victor

St. Victor lived during the early centuries of Christianity and is commemorated together with St. Claudius, St. Diodoros, and St. Victorinus, who were martyred for their Christian faith.

During this time, Roman authorities often demanded that Christians abandon their beliefs and participate in pagan worship.

Martyrdom and Witness

According to Christian tradition, St. Victor refused to renounce his faith in Christ. Because of this, he was arrested and persecuted by Roman authorities.

Despite the pressure placed upon him, he remained steadfast in his beliefs and ultimately suffered martyrdom.

Greek Name Day for Victor

Because St. Victor is commemorated on April 5, this date is also the Greek name day for:

Viktor

Victoria

In Greek culture, celebrating a name day is often just as important as celebrating a birthday. Friends and family commonly offer well wishes or visits to honor the person whose name is being celebrated.

When St. Victor Is Celebrated
