Getting from Agios Efstratios to Donoussa
If you are heading to Donoussa from Agios Efstratios you are making your way from a small island in the northern Aegean to one of the Small Cyclades, on the opposite side of the Greek island world. The two are as far apart in character as they are in geography.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Agios Efstratios to Donoussa. The two islands are in completely different parts of Greece with no sea connection between them. Getting there means taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, which runs 4 times a week in summer and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, and then flying to Athens and connecting to Donoussa. From Athens, fly to Naxos and take the local ferry to Donoussa, which takes around 2 to 3 hours and runs 6 days a week in summer. Alternatively, take the ferry from Piraeus to Donoussa directly, which runs 4 times a week and takes around 6 hours 45 minutes.
Getting there by air
Agios Efstratios has no airport. The nearest airport is Lemnos. Taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Naxos, followed by the local ferry to Donoussa, gives a total journey time of around 7 to 8 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, fly to Athens and then fly to Naxos and take the local ferry across to Donoussa. It is the most practical approach. Give yourself at least two nights on Donoussa and come prepared as facilities on the island are limited.
