Getting from Agios Efstratios to Santorini

If you are heading to Santorini from Agios Efstratios you are making your way from one of the most isolated islands in the northern Aegean to the most iconic island in Greece, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It has caldera views, volcanic beaches and the ancient Minoan site of Akrotiri preserved under volcanic ash.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agios Efstratios to Santorini. Getting there means taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, which runs 4 times a week in summer and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, flying to Athens and then taking the Piraeus to Santorini ferry, which runs up to 8 daily departures in summer. The fast catamaran takes around 5 hours and the conventional ferry takes around 7.5 to 8 hours.

Getting there by air

Santorini has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Santorini takes around 50 minutes in the air. Total travel time is around 5 to 6 hours and is the most practical approach for most travelers. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos and fly to Santorini via Athens. It is the fastest and most practical approach. Book well ahead in July and August as Santorini ferry and flight spaces fill up fast. If you are traveling with a car, fly to Athens and take the conventional ferry from Piraeus to Santorini, which takes your vehicle directly to Athinios port.
