Getting from Antipaxos to Amorgos

If you are heading to Amorgos from Antipaxos you are making your way from a tiny island in the Ionian Sea to the most eastern of the Cyclades, on the opposite side of Greece. It has dramatic cliffs, the extraordinary Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa built into the cliff face above the sea and an atmosphere that rewards those who make the effort to get there.

Take the ferry

There are no scheduled ferries from Antipaxos to Amorgos. Antipaxos has no ferry port of its own and is accessible only by sea taxi from Gaios on Paxos. Getting to Amorgos means taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Corfu, flying to Athens and then taking the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry, which runs daily in summer and takes around 5 to 9 hours depending on the vessel. Amorgos has two ports, Katapola and Aegiali, so check which port your ferry arrives at before booking accommodation.

Getting there by air

Amorgos has no airport. The nearest airports are Naxos and Santorini. Antipaxos has no airport either. Taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Corfu and flying to Athens, then taking the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry gives a total journey time of around 9 to 11 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Corfu, fly to Athens and take the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry. Give Amorgos at least three nights. The island opens up slowly and rewards those who stay long enough to find its rhythm. If you are traveling with a car, take the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos and drive to Piraeus for the conventional Piraeus to Amorgos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to the island.
