Getting from Antipaxos to Zakynthos

If you are heading to Zakynthos from Antipaxos you are making your way from a tiny island in the Ionian Sea to one of the most beautiful islands in the same sea, just a short distance to the south. It has Navagio Beach, the shipwreck cove with towering white cliffs and turquoise water that is one of the most photographed places in the Mediterranean.

Take the ferry

There are no direct scheduled ferries from Antipaxos to Zakynthos. Antipaxos has no ferry port of its own and is accessible only by sea taxi from Gaios on Paxos. Getting to Zakynthos means taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa and then driving south to Kyllini on the western Peloponnese for the ferry to Zakynthos, which takes around 1 hour 15 minutes and runs frequently. The total drive from Igoumenitsa to Kyllini takes around 3.5 to 4 hours via Patras.

Getting there by air

Zakynthos has an international airport with connections from Athens. Antipaxos has no airport either. Taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Corfu and flying to Athens and then Athens to Zakynthos takes around 50 to 55 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 7 to 8 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa and drive south to Kyllini for the ferry across to Zakynthos. It avoids Athens entirely and keeps the journey within western Greece. Alternatively take the sea taxi to Paxos, ferry to Corfu and fly to Athens then Zakynthos if you prefer not to drive. If you are traveling with a car the Igoumenitsa to Kyllini route is the most practical.
