Getting from Crete to Sifnos
If you are heading to Sifnos from Crete you are going to one of the most respected islands in the Cyclades, known above all for its food, a tradition of pottery and cooking that has made it one of the most regarded gastronomic destinations in the Aegean.
Take the ferry
There is a direct seasonal ferry from Crete to Sifnos running in summer, departing from Heraklion and stopping at Santorini, Folegandros and Milos along the way, with the full journey taking around 5 to 6 hours. The route is not year-round so check the schedule before planning around it. Outside of the summer season the connection goes via Piraeus.
Getting there by air
Sifnos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Crete to Athens takes around 50 minutes and then the ferry from Piraeus to Sifnos takes around 3 hours on the fast service. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours.
Your best option
Take the direct summer ferry from Heraklion when it is running. If the direct service is not available for your dates, fly to Athens and take the ferry from Piraeus. The arrival into Kamares port with the hills rising steeply above the harbour is one of the better approaches in the western Cyclades.
