Getting from Crete to Corfu
If you are heading to Corfu from Crete you are going to the most elegant of the Ionian islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site town of Venetian, French and British colonial architecture built around two fortresses, with a lush green island behind it and a coastline varied enough to spend weeks exploring.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Crete to Corfu. The two islands sit on opposite sides of Greece and are not connected by sea. Getting there by sea means taking the overnight ferry from Crete to Piraeus and then travelling by road northwest to Igoumenitsa for the ferry to Corfu, making the total journey the better part of two days.
Getting there by air
Both Crete and Corfu have airports. Flying from Crete to Athens takes around 50 minutes and then Athens to Corfu takes around 50 minutes, giving a total journey time of around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. A direct seasonal flight between Heraklion and Corfu may also be available so check before routing through Athens.
Your best option
Fly via Athens or direct if the seasonal service is available. At around 3 to 4 hours total it is the only realistic approach. If you are travelling with a car, fly to Athens, drive to Igoumenitsa and take the ferry across to Corfu, which gives you a vehicle on the island for exploring the coastline and interior villages.
