Getting from Dokos to Athens

If you are heading to Athens from Dokos you are making your way from an uninhabited rocky island in the Saronic Gulf to the capital of Greece and the gateway to everything it connects to.

Take the ferry

There are no scheduled ferries from Dokos. Dokos has no ferry service and is accessible only by water taxi from Hydra, Spetses or Ermioni, with the crossing from Hydra taking around 30 minutes. Getting to Athens means arranging a water taxi from Dokos to Hydra and then taking the Saronic ferry from Hydra to Piraeus, which takes around 1 hour 5 minutes to 2 hours with up to 12 daily crossings year-round. From Piraeus the metro takes around 20 minutes to central Athens.

Getting there by air

Dokos has no airport and neither does Hydra. The nearest airport is Athens International. The water taxi to Hydra and Saronic ferry to Piraeus is the only realistic approach and at around 2 to 3 hours total it is straightforward and direct.

Your best option

Arrange a water taxi from Dokos to Hydra before leaving the island and take the Saronic ferry directly to Piraeus. Pre-arrange your water taxi departure as you cannot hail a boat once you are on Dokos. From Piraeus the metro connects you directly to central Athens in around 20 minutes. The coves of Dokos empty out in the late afternoon when day boats leave so plan your departure around the last water taxi of the day and the evening ferry connections from Hydra.
