Getting from Dokos to Andros
If you are heading to Andros from Dokos you are making your way from an uninhabited rocky island in the Saronic Gulf to the northernmost island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of Greece. It has neoclassical mansions, an art museum of genuinely international quality and a network of old footpaths connecting the villages.
Take the ferry
There are no scheduled ferries from Dokos. Dokos has no ferry service and is accessible only by water taxi from Hydra, Spetses or Ermioni, with the crossing from Hydra taking around 30 minutes. Andros is served primarily from Rafina on the northeastern Attica coast. Getting to Andros means arranging a water taxi from Dokos to Hydra, taking the Saronic ferry from Hydra to Piraeus, which takes around 1 hour 5 minutes to 2 hours, and then taking a taxi to Rafina, around 25 kilometres from Athens Airport, for the ferry to Andros taking around 1 to 2 hours with up to 11 daily departures in summer.
Getting there by air
Andros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Dokos has no airport. Taking the water taxi from Dokos to Hydra, the Saronic ferry to Piraeus and then taking a taxi to Rafina for the ferry to Andros gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Arrange a water taxi from Dokos to Hydra before leaving the island, take the Saronic ferry to Piraeus and take a taxi to Rafina for the ferry across to Andros. Rafina is a short taxi ride from Athens Airport and avoids crossing the city entirely. Pre-arrange your water taxi departure as you cannot hail a boat once you are on Dokos.
